On the higher difficulty levels, nearly every enemy becomes a Demonic Spider, especially in Super Arcade Mode and Super Tyrian where you have no rear gun and crappy shields.They come in threes, fire at quite a fast rate and take forever to die. Penetration weapons, such as the Mega Cannon and Zica Flamethrower may not seem all that powerful, until you realize that you can "affect" many enemies, including bosses, with them and One-Hit Kill a lot of them by ramming your ship into them.Ear Worm: Most of the music in the game, although the music from the very first level deserves special mention.To give you an idea of how bad the green platforms are on higher difficulties, even the almighty SDF Main Gun will take several shots to kill one of them.

In not-weird terms, that means I hope I'm not the only one here who knows what Tyrian even is.Soh Jin, a secret level in the first episode had destructible "red blocks" that did massive Collision Damage if you bumped into them.A good number of players consider it to be this as it is very short, contains no new music, the new weapons and ships are no match for the stuff that the first four episodes have to offer, and much of the artwork was not done by Daniel Cook, the original sprite artist for Tyrian. Not only do I really love this game, but I'm kind of hoping that spreading word about it a bit will inspire someone (or a team) to remake the game on a modern engine, so it can run at 60 FPS and not need an emulator. It's one of those oldies that never gets the attention it deserves. I think this game deserves a lot of hype. If you use full screen, you can only use scaler 4x and hq4x. Check the graphics settings by choosing OpenTyrian in the main menu. Run the game by double clicking opentyrian.exe.

If you're a fan of that kind of game, I really think you should check it out! It's available for free on GOG.com (yes, the same GOG that Terraria was recently released on), however it's run in DOSbox, so running it could be a bit finicky. Copy the contents of the downloaded zip file to a folder of choice, for example d:\games. It's a really fun forward-scrolling shooter, kind of like Namco's Xevious, but different in many ways.
